“Spring & Chaos” aka “Kenji no Haru” aka “Kenji`s Spring”
53 Minuten, 1996
Regie und Drehbuch: Shoji Kawamori (u.a. Regie Earth Girl Arjuna, Drehbuch Vision of Escaflowne, Mecha-Design GITS, Patlabor, Blue Submarine Nr. 6)
Plot: “This is the animated biography of Kenji Miyazawa, a poet and a writer who lived between 1896-1933 in Iwate, Japan.
With use of cats as characters in the story, expressive editing, and computer graphics, the animation captures fantastic and surrealistic world of Kenji Miyazawa, whose works are often known to be allegorical and abstract. (…) It was only after his death, at the age of 37, that Kenji Miyazawa was recognized as one of Japan's Pre-eminent poets and visionary thinkers. Kenji's Spring, renamed Spring and Chaos by Mixx Entertainment, tells the story of Kenji's tragically short life and his struggle to be true to his art and himself. In many of Kenji's poems he used animals in place of humans, in keeping with this theme, director Shoji Kawamori chose to represent Kenji, his family and the people around them as anthropomorphic (i.e. human-shaped) animals, cats for the most part, in this film.”
