Plot:
„The earth entered the glacial period, and all creatures were on the brink of extinction. People are divided into two groups ( small number of aristocrat and commoner who lost hope and the purpose to live ) in the city which is covered with the dome.
One boy Kiba appear in such a city. He is the lonely wolf which don't have parents and a brother. Though his externals are wolves of the wild, the supersonic wave included in the cry act on human brain and his externals look like "human". There are a lot of wolves which lived in the human society in this city. Most of them live as a human being in this city to get a little food.
However, Kiba is different.
He is aiming at "Paradise" which exists somewhere in this world. It is said that wolves lived in the paradise when human civilization was ruined before. It is said that the paradise is the only place where a wolf can live having pride. It is said that "The lunar flower" receives the light from the moon, blooms all over the paradise, and the aroma indicates the location of the paradise. The aristocrat searched for the lunar flower, and Kiba who had felt the smell of the flower came to the city. The girl to whom it is said that it was created by using the gene of the lunar flower is in the laboratory in the city. Cheza who is a girl encompassed by veil of mystery. When the blind girl restrained with the chain awakes, wolves start on a journey aiming at the paradise.“

Ich glaube über die Qualitäten von Wolf´s Rain braucht man sich nicht zu streiten. Vielleicht aber über den ein oder anderen negativen Aspekt. Da haben wir z.B. die schon häufiger angesprochene Serien-Planung mit ein paar Recap-Folgen hintereinander. Und als Krönung werden dann 4 OVAs angeboten, um die Story zuende zu führen. Ich will ja keine Bösartigkeit unterstellen.... aber es gab ja auch schon bei Scrapped Princess Verwirrung über die Länge der Serie. Entweder hat Studio Bones alles, nur kein Organisationstalent, oder sie haben keine Lobby in der japanischen TV-Landschaft. Letzteres kann ich mir jedoch aufgrund der Erfolge von Studio Bones eher nicht vorstellen. Ich hab ja RahXephon noch nicht gesehen – aber lief das da genauso ab? Das Tsume jetzt gekleidet ist, als ob er gerade aus dem Gay-S/M-Swinger-Club kommt, will ich jetzt nicht negativ ankreiden, ich wollte nur an dieser Stelle anmerken, dass mir das aufgefallen ist.
Der Opening Song fand ich jetzt eher nicht den Super-Hit... kam mir ´n bissl zu sehr nach 08/15-AFN-Mucke vor... aber ansonsten hat Yoko Kanno natürlich wieder super Arbeit geleistet.

Gut, soweit wirklich nur Kleinigkeiten, die mir aufgefallen sind. Was ich jetzt aber wirklich befremdend fand, war das „10 kleine Negerlein“-Prinzip in den OVA-Folgen. Ich hab wirklich nix dagegen, wenn auch sympathische Charaktere abnibbeln. Bei so einer Serie ist ein gewisser Bodycount ja fast Pflicht. Aber doch nicht gleich im Akkord. Dagegen scheint dieser Darcia ja ganz schön was auszuhalten – so oft wie die Hütte über ihn zusammengstürzt ist, er erdolcht, vergiftet, in die Luft gesprengt wurde... und der Typ taucht immer wieder einfach so mal wieder auf?!
Seltsam.. aber er war trotzdem ein gut getroffener Charakter. Das Ende fand ich dann wieder gelungen – kein „Tritratrullala, alles ist gut“ wie bei Scrapped Princess – doch, sehr gelungen.
Mein persönliches Fazit:
Gute ausgereifte Story, Actionelemente und Chara-Entwicklung sind gut ausbalanciert. Die positiven Elemente überwiegen eindeutig den, hier zu vernachlässigenden, Mängel.
